There s probably no other country as alluring and historically significant as little Italy. Measuring about 116,346 square miles, which is smaller than the state of California, this place serves as seat to influential military, cultural and political elements that make it a well-known regional power. It is considered a highly globalised nation and in fact has one of the biggest domestic incomes in the whole world. Italy is found in the South-Central area of Europe, bordered by France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia and the Mediterranean Sea. With 60.8 million inhabitants, it considered the 5th most populous country in Europe and 23rd in the world. And although it partly responsible for World War I and II, there are plenty of things we can be grateful for from this country, which is narrowed down to five things in this post.

a. Food. Can you imagine life without aromatic, succulent, flavorful, satiating Italian cuisines? Probably not, which isn t surprising at all, considering how tightly ingrained it has been in different cultures and settings. From soups to appetizers, main courses and desserts, even drinks; the whole world is influenced by and greatly attached to Italian servings. And if other countries are to contest Italian food being the best, at least there s no disproving the fact that it is the most popular. Without Italy, we would not have the pleasure of pizza, spaghetti, gelato and Nutella today, to name a few.

b. Fashion. Italy is among the first countries to pay homage to style. And as of today, it is also one of the places that breed the most successful designers. From Valentino to Gucci, Vuitton and Cavalli; Versace, Ferragamo, Moschino, Prada and Feretti; Italy serves as home to an abundance of A-lister celebrity designers. And you can find all of them stationed in Milan, Rome and Florence.

c. Art. Italian artists sculptors, painters, playwrights, poets, directors, actors, photographers, singers, composers, musicians have molded and inspired foreign culture in more ways than one. There is no denying that little Italy has made a tremendous impact in the world of Art, whatever medium there is, with the likes of Michelangelo, Donatello, Dante Alighieri, Giacomo Puccini, Roberto Benigni, Luciano Pavarotti and Al Pacino.

d. Religion. Of course, who could set aside Italy s contribution in this controversial and widely encompassing niche? It is where the birthplace of Catholicism is. It is where the main church of the Roman Catholic community is built. It is where its great leader resides. Roman Catholicism is known to be the largest religion to date, with 1.196 billion members, which is 33% of the whole world s population.

e. Technology. Yes, Italians have also made quite a mark when it comes to this particular industry with their scientists, engineers and innovators. Thanks to them, we were able to make use of optical glasses, mechanical clocks, telephone, thermometers, barometers, and musical instruments like the violin, cello and piano. Italians were also the ones who provided the world with top caliber sports car like Bugatti, Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini.
